Lamborghini Vs Fighter Jet
26.11.2007
Lamborghini's
aircraft inspired Reventón has had a chance to prove its credentials
against a real life jet fighter.
Sadly the plane that really influenced the radical looking Lambo - the F22 Raptor - wasn't available so instead the Italian airforce put up one of its Tornado fighter bombers, similar to those used by our own RAF.
It may be a 33-year-old design but the Tornado can still hit over 900mph at sea level so was enough to give the 641bhp Reventón a run for its money. The Tornado and Reventón faced each other on the 1.9-mile runway of the Ghedi airforce base in Brescia, northern Italy - the town best known as the start and finish of the Mille Miglia. According to Lamborghini the car grabbed an early lead, being pipped to the line by the fighter jet 'in the last few metres' while flat out at its 211mph maximum speed.
In
other news the Reventón has been grabbing further headlines after it
was officially declared L'Automobile più Bella del Mondo - the most beautiful
car in the world. That this award should come at an awards ceremony held in
Italy should not come as a huge surprise, although the panel was made up of
an international panel of judges. Beauty is of course in the eye of the beholder
but few could argue that the Reventón is one of the most dramatic supercars
of recent years. And while cynics might argue that €1m (about £720,000)
is a bit steep for a reclothed Murciélago, the strictly limited production
run of 20 cars has already been sold, with deliveries starting next year.
